Well, who doesn't identify with that? Corduroy, the bear who once lived in the toy department of a big store, has been on children's bookshelves for almost 50 years and one of the most beloved characters in children's books. A longer read aloud by today's standards, Corduroy's charm can hold the attention of a young toddler. Don Freeman's Corduroy and Pocket for Corduroy stories still sound fresh to today's audiences and Lisa's love for her bear, imperfections and all, resonates with the lap library crowd.

Back in my art directing days, one of the first books I worked on was Pocket for Corduroy. After Don's death, Viking and the Freeman estate asked if I would write new titles based on Don's bear. In addition to 13 Corduroy lift-the-flap books, I wrote A Christmas Wish for Corduroy and Corduroy Lost and Found, both companion picture books to Don's original Corduroy stories.
