If you could do one thing to help your child become a life-long reader, THIS IS IT!

Montessori expert Maren Schmidt advises, "Learning to read is a process that begins a long time before your child enters kindergarten."

She suggests that a parent can create a language rich environment by doing the following:

  • Reading to your child

  • Singing to and with your children

  • Speaking clearly and directly to your child so he can see your face to see how words are formed o helping your child become aware that words are made up of individual sounds. This skill is called phonemic awareness.

Helping your child know that letters represent sounds, a skill that is called letter/sound recognition.
